Further Information

A fine Rolls Royce aircraft Apprentice model to include micrometer, spanners and engine blade, circa 1960.

In the 1950s–60s, Rolls-Royce aero-engine apprentices commonly built “apprentice pieces” — beautifully made display models and cut-away sections of contemporary engines — as capstone training projects. They showed off precision turning, milling, sheet-metal, riveting and finishing skills, and were sometimes used for shop-floor instruction or presented as gifts (e.g., on retirements).
